Erasmus Elite Sports

Erasmus Elite Sports was founded in 1991 to support elite athletes studying at the Erasmus University. The aim of Erasmus Elite Sports reads as follows:

“To support the Elite Sports students who are acting at the highest level in their Sport in the Netherlands on study facility, sports facility and financial matters.”

Erasmus Elite Sports is the intermediary between the athletes and the university. The organization also takes care of the administration, for example granting the Elite Sports status and informing the faculties. To support the athletes in the best way possible, Erasmus Elite Sports works together with education institutions, faculties, deans and other elite athlete related organizations in the Netherlands. July 2025

Tom Sonneville

Erasmus Sport top athlete Tom Sonneville won silver in beach volleyball at the World University Games Summer 2025 in Duisburg. Together with Quinten Groenewold, he showed in the quarterfinals and semifinals that they belong to the international top. The silver medal is a great reward for their strong play and experience at this level.

Summer 2025

Sarah Laboyrie

Sarah Laboyrie had a successful summer in beach tennis. In June, she finished second at the BT10 tournament in Amersfoort and repeated this result at the Dutch Mixed Doubles Championship. In early July, she traveled to Nice for a BT200 tournament, where she reached the semifinals in the consolation round.

November 2025

Agreement on Flexible Education and Elite Sport

Elite student-athletes will continue to receive support in combining top-level sport and higher education over the next eight years. Thirty higher-education institutions and NOC*NSF have renewed the Flexible Education and Elite Sport Agreement, including new commitments in the FLOT 3.0 Action Plan focused on flexible learning and tailored guidance.

December 2025

Linn van Aanholt

Erasmus Sport top athlete Linn van Aanholt (24) has had an exceptional season this year. The rower won gold at the World Championships in Shanghai and took gold and silver at the European Championships in Plovdiv, while at the same time completing two master's degrees at Erasmus School of Economics. With support from her association and the faculty, Linn has managed to combine world-class sport with her studies.

January 2026

Elise de Jong

Combining top-level sport and university studies: student Elise de Jong (19) shows it can be done. The pole vaulter studies Econometrics at Erasmus School of Economics and trains at the highest level. With flexibility from her studies and guidance from Erasmus Sport, she is building both careers. In 2025, her efforts were rewarded with gold at the European Championships in Tampere.
